Insider Safari Wisdom: 11 Packing Tips Our Team Can't Live Without

Safari with Bantu Pori Journeys

Preparing for a safari adventure often sparks a barrage of questions, and we understand your concerns. The team at Bantu Pori Journeys has been in your shoes, asking similar questions before embarking on our journeys to Tanzania. To ease your packing woes, we've compiled a list of insider tips that have proven invaluable for us and can help you gear up for your safari with confidence!

Embrace Comfort on Long Travel Days Make your journey as enjoyable as the destination. Opt for comfort during flights that may span 24+ hours. Arrive at the airport in a comfortable outfit, and keep a readily accessible small bag with essentials to stay refreshed. Our team favorites include a versatile Patagonia jacket and noise-canceling headphones for catching up on sleep.

Master the Art of Layering Safari days bring bright sun and cool nights. Given the fluctuating weather, layers are your best companions. Pack a light sweater or sweatshirt in your daypack for easy access, and don't forget a rain jacket for unexpected weather. Our recommended options are comfortable, moisture-wicking, and offer SPF protection.

Opt for the Right Luggage A lightweight, durable, soft-sided duffel bag is your ideal safari companion. Consider the weight of your bag while packing and choose a unique or branded design for easy identification at baggage claim. Stay organized with packing cubes, assigning each for shirts, pants, accessories, etc.

Stay Prepared with a Day Bag Long Land Rover journeys call for a small backpack by your side. Pack a day bag with essentials like a light sweater, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Consider a smaller bag for your wallet and cash. Choose a bag with multiple pockets for easy access to your necessities.

Cozy Up for the Night Nights can get chilly, especially in places like the Ngorongoro Crater. Prepare with a warm and comfortable pajama set and cozy socks. Our suggested picks are soft, warm, and easy to wash, ensuring a comfortable night's sleep.

Keep Your Devices Charged Ensure your phone and camera are charged throughout the day. A universal adapter compatible with over 150 countries is a handy gadget for international travel. Carry a portable charging bank for extra power during long days or flights.

Prepare for the Bush Bathroom Camp bathrooms provide essentials, but pack your favorite toiletries in reusable travel-size containers. Stay organized with a small toiletry bag featuring hooks to keep everything in one clutter-free place.

Choose the Right Footwear Footwear is crucial for safari. Bring lightweight sneakers for walking safaris and comfortable shoes for camp and Land Rover rides. Avoid heavy boots unless trekking Mt. Kilimanjaro. Dust is inevitable, so opt for shoes comfortable with a little dirt.

Binoculars are Essential Spot wildlife from a distance with binoculars. Our recommended options are affordable, powerful at 8x42 magnification, and provide a clear image. Become a wildlife spotting pro on your safari adventure.

Laundry Day is a Game-Changer Did you know you can get your laundry done on safari? Camp staff offers hand washing and air drying for a few dollars per garment, preventing overpacking and supporting local Tanzanian businesses.

Don the Iconic Safari Hat Complete your safari look with the classic 'safari hat.' Stylish and practical, it shields your face and neck from the sun. You may resemble Indiana Jones, but you'll feel like a million dollars on the savannah.

The Thrill of the Mara River Crossing From Danny: "Last year, our guests experienced the Mara River crossing firsthand, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Imagine standing on the riverbanks, the air filled with anticipation, as thousands of wildebeest and zebras gather on the opposite side, ready to make their daring plunge. The crossing is a dramatic and chaotic scene, with animals braving strong currents and lurking predators. The sheer determination of these creatures, driven by the instinct to survive, is awe-inspiring." Why July to October? From Hussein: "D...
